RE: Manual recording feature on Contour Record 6 is balky.

@Domino, thanks for your suggestion. I set up 7 manual recordings using the Select button instead of the blue B button.  It is an improvement.  5 of the manual recordings were successful. 2 of them generated a warning screen "Cox has encountered a technical problem .....".

When i was having my previous problem using the blue B button, i would never get a warning that the operation failed. I would just get bounced back to the previous screen with the option to Record at the top of the list of choices.

Domino, i called a Cox executive and recommended that you be given a salary or some recompense for your work on this forum.  She said that would be unusual; they already have moderators.  But she didn't say no.

If I worked for and/or was compensated by Cox, I would have to play nice with all in this forum. I prefer it as it is. Thanks, but no thanks.

Perhaps Domino can post how to access the Diagnostic Menus on the Cisco Contour 6 DVR. So you can look yourself to see what the FDC (Forward Data Channel) and RDC (Return Data Channel) levels are.

The FDC should be greater than -10dBmV closest to 0dBmV would be best

The RDC Power should be 30-40dB, greater than 45-50dB would indicate a possible return path issue.

Last I tried, the Diagnostic Menus could be accessed by holding "SELECT" on the remote down until front panel power LED starts blinking (about 5 seconds), then pressing the white "up arrow" on the remote. FDC and RDC power levels are on first (summary) page. My RDC is at 47.7dBmV, but all is operating OK. My FDC is at 0.6dBmV, with a S/N of 36.6 dB.

[I think RDC numbers read higher with a P.O.E. filter inline.]

What is the remote model number? What is the receiver make/model number?

I have a remote that won't change channels or go to DVR setting.  Basically the cox part isn't working.  I have heard there is a quick fix but don't know what it is to help remote communicate with box any ideas?

I hate to say it but, when I occasionally (less now than before) run into this problem, a reboot of the DVR always seems to clear up the search loading error. I thought that some combination of remote key strokes caused the box to enter this bad state. After the reboot, I normally wait until the search is successful for one letter before continuing with the search. Paranoia?

Do you still see the CC when you bring up the guide?  You might want to make sure CC isn't enabled on your actual TV.

My closed captioning is stuck on. I have turned it on and off multiple times via the Settings menu and even when it says it's off, it's on. I tried your Cable Reset feature but it said it wasn't available to me.

When I called Cox earlier today for an unrelated issue, the telephone message said that some TV channels were not working.  I was not having any issues so I assumed it must be Central and North Phoenix areas.

All 3 versions of AMC are working for me in SE Phoenix (from the Chandler cable plant)
Someone else in Scottsdale was having issues with AMC a few weeks ago, When I checked AMC I was surprised to find that both SD and HD were being broadcast at 147MHz  That frequency can have a lot of interference.

43 - AMC Analog
43 - AMC SD Digital
1043 - AMC HD

Since Cox lost the ESPN feed in HD this afternoon in access of 2 hours does Cox plan on replaying missed programming like the NHRA Drag racing? I was able to tune ESPN2 on a straight not hd channel on an older TV but not on either DVR in HD. Sp hats the plan for missing this program?  Both channels 32 and 33 were offline.

@Ed, thank you for that idea.  Instead of "typing" the entire title into the search box, i am going to type one letter ..... then wait to see if it loads.  Normally i concentrate on the search box before looking to the right and seeing that nothing is loading.

I just did 2 searches. Keywords and Title.   The Keyword search takes 1 minute for results to appear when i enter 3 letters. The result is poor.... far too many entries.  The Title search took almost 3 minutes for the results to appear after i entered 3 letters.

I have been too anxious.  I need to wait longer.  That length of time makes the search feature unattractive.  At least i now know that it works.

Why do you accept old SA 8300 DVRs? Try to get SA 8240HDC DVRs, or better yet, Cisco 8642HDC DVRs. Same price.

DVR failure to record

Hi,

I have 2 8300HD DVRs that were recently replaced due to a randomly occurring recording problem.

Sometimes the DVR will record a program but when I attempt to play the DVR says "unable to playback"..

Sometimes the DVR will fail to record a program, the program is displayed in the DVR list with a red error message "Recording Error"..

It happened again tonight. I changed the channel to the scheduled channel and the program displayed fine.. I attempted to push the record button on the remote, the "Recording" message was displayed on the front panel of the DVR then quickly shut off.. Again with an "recording error" message.

The rest of the programs for the night also failed to record with exception of one program.

I had a cox sub-contracted "tech" out here previously to replace the boxes.. He checked all of the signals, connections, and replaced connectors at the drop.

The problems started to happen after some recent software update to the DVR a few months ago. From what I can tell all that was added was a horribly ugly program guide now with stupid advertising... I thought it was a hard drive failure. So I got replacement DVRs.. Much to my disappointment the problem still reoccurs.

I've had COX service for over 10 years now. I am ready to smash these stupid boxes and cancel everything.

I was unaware of the various models available. I had assumed COX would want to provide a recent version of hardware that works..

there is a sequence of events to get the 1.4 tuning adaptor to recognize the card/Roamio. . It is either in the Tivo forum or AVS Forum. I beleive the tuning adaptor has to be unplugged from the Roamio then a couplemother steps. I have avoided the Roamio due to this issue. My trusty Premiere is working fine. A little investigating and you should get your answers.

Have been battling the install of a new Tivo Roamio Pro for 48 hours. 7 over the phone Cox technicians and 2 cable cards, 2 tuning adapters later, still no working Tuning Adapter. It is clear that the Motorola MTR-700 firmware was updated out in Cox Kansas in December, and the Hampton Roads area is not able to know this? Tivo is clear, they will not allow their Roamio Pro to connect on its USB to a MTR-700 with firmware less than 1.40. How is it that 7 calls now over 2 days and Cox is sending a tech out in person to troubleshoot? Who in CableCard/Tuning Adapter Cox Support can flash my firmware to 1.40 TODAY? Who can I call? A 31 year customer of Cox... and I believe Cox tech support is better lately... but this issue should be a hot button on the HelpDesk's Tivo cheat sheet. Gerrym Norfolk, VA Retired Network Janitor

Not happy about the rate hike for Basic Service subscribers

As a long-time Cox customer, I'm not happy about their "all digital" program. I have 5 TVs in-house that now will need cable boxes. More junk, more cables, more remotes, more MONEY, and and I didn't ask for any of it. I've been a basic cable subscriber for a long, long time; now I'm going to have to pay more for it. I get the whole "nudge" customers toward a digital cable subscription, but I don't want that. The TV I watch 99% of the time is a 1998 projection-style, home theater TV. The picture quality is as good as when it was new (I have an excellent repairman), and have no intentions of replacing it soon. I watch only a handful of channels anyway, so I don't need/want the whole digital lineup. So I guess it's time to investigate other viewing options, air signal, etc., and determine what is the most cost-effective solution to watch the handful of shows I deem worth watching.

RE: SEC Network on Watch ESPN

I ended up calling Cox Friday morning, and the issue was finally resolved.  I did have to delete the current Watch ESPN app and re-install it.  What was weird though, was that I had set my DVR early that morning to record the LSU game on the SEC network, Channel 82.  When I got home from work, not only was the game not recorded, channel 82 was no longer in my Cox line-up!  Whatever the Cox rep did to put SEC back on my iPad took it off my TV!  But before I called Saturday to complain, I checked my line-up once more, and the Cox 82 and 83 channels were back.  ????

Thanks to bryan and Domino. I have set my dvr to a local HD channel when i "Power On" the dvr. I have not seen the "no signal detected 3.1.1" message since.  It is not the channel i want but it is better than that "no signal" message.
