Is it just me, or hasn't anybody found it UNLIVEABLE that the Record 6 DVR CLIENT boxes are incapable of allowing the viewer to use the 30-second back or Rewind functions on live TV unless you first choose to "Pause" or "Record" that channel? I just had a smart aleck customer service rep insist that he was 99% sure this is possible because he has the system himself, but I assure you on my set up (one host STB with 6 tuners and two client boxes) that it is not. The awful Trio guide I can live with, but I cannot live without having the ability to simply switch channels and have that box automatically begin recording (in the buffer) what you are watching so you can:
1. rewind up to the point where you first began viewing that channel
2. use the 30-sec back button
3. choose to then hit "Record" and it will capture all of the previous buffered recording as well as the remainder of the program.
Example: I just switched from a show to ESPN and began watching for a few minutes and my eye caught a score going by in the crawl at the bottom of the screen, so (having been used to my old 2-tuner Motorola box) I immediately hit the 30-second back button expecting to catch that score, and WTF -- nothing!
Yes, I've enabled my client box to "pause live TV" but even the guide settings itself reads as follows "When this function is enabled, it will use your DVR and its tuners. Once paused, a program can be rewound only up to the point were it was first paused"
That's ludicrous and a huge step back from the Moto/Rovi DVRs.
I feel bad that some poor technician has to make a house call tomorrow for me to prove this, all because the smart-aleck CSR assured me I was not correct about the capability of the client boxes. Ten bucks says that CSR has the 6-tuner at home -- but no client boxes. (lives alone??) I will say this, the 6 Tuner DVR host box works and responds well --- but the client boxes badly need a software fix to allow them to immediately seize a tuner as soon as the user begins viewing a channel. Otherwise, the tech will be pulling the whole darn system out tomorrow.
